Swarm Lure and Honey Prep

Swarm Lure and Honey Prep

What We Expected

We took the opportunity to put out some new boxes and honey frames for two of our hives, so we had no expectations other than simply seeing the bees alive and well.

What We Saw

The weather had just broken from a string of cold, rainy days (high 50s) so it wasn't surprising to see few flying bees and the majority of them buzzing around inside the hives.

What We Did

We put up medium supers on top of the Witch and Green hives, giving them frames to comb out and begin filling with honey. The frames themselves were given somewhat loose foundation made of beeswax, so we're hoping the bees propolis them up, secure them, and begin using them soon.

We also put out some elements for a swarm box, planning to put it together on Friday evening.

What We’ll Do

We'll return on Friday for a more thorough inspection of the brood boxes and of the Wood Hive to check on its queenright status.
